John C. Teague b: June 21, 1786 in Laurens County, South Carolina, the son of William Teague & Elizabeth Miller

Married: Nancy Gaston Burton (b: 1784 in North Carolina) in 1808 in Wilson County, Tennessee. Nancy died about 1861 and was buried in Old Clover Creek, Hardeman, TN

They moved from South Carolina to Hardeman County. Here the Teague family purchased land in the early 1820's. A Baptist Church was established in 1826 at Clover Creek, and John Teague and his family were active members. In 1849, John gave two and one-half acres of land on which to build the church. Teague, Tennessee on the Tennessee Central Railroad (now Illinois Central) was named for this family. John Teague, besides operating his mill with two dams on the Clover Creek, was an early surveyor of land in West Tennessee. According to family tradition he said, "These acres will be all that my family and I will ever need." He was a member of the Unity Association of Primitive Baptist Churches and a member of the Sons of Temperance. His residence was on the Hardeman-Madison County line and records were found in both counties. THE NASHVILLE UNION AMERICAN of 18 February 1873, records: John Teague, 92 years old, a citizen of Hardeman County and a soldier of 1812 died at his home and is buried in the Clover Creek Cemetery.
