James A. Teague -pvt. to corporal, enlisted at Jackson on 9-8-1862, age 19or
22 (these records often have conflicting information, those ages may be
enlistment and discharge),enlisted for 3 years by Thomas Smith, capt. of Co. A, 5'10", fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, born in Henderson Co., a
farmer.He received a $ 100 bounty for enlistment. He was captured at Trenton in Dec. 1862 and send to Camp Chase, Ohio parole camp, but was exchanged.He was captured again at Union City on March 24, 1864 and sent to Andersonville
Prison.When the men were moved out of Andersonville when Sherman was going
across Georgia, he escaped at Georgetown, SC on 2/15/1863, made his way to
College Green then to Camp Chase on 3/11/1865. He rejoined the unit in Co.c
detached and was discharged with the regiment at Nashville on 8/9/1865. In 1890 he was living in Henderson Co., Lexington PO. He says he was in prison in Andersonville 10 months and 18 days. Goodspeed says he was in prison in
Florence and Charleston but escaped and was home by Aug 1865 where he became a grocer and Carroll Co. clerk in 1878. He is in the 1850 and 1870 census of
Henderson Co. (prob. also 1860).
