Midsummer 1789: Examination of Thomas Cooper, servant to Mr. Welles Upton on Severn, attorney: he often has to clean the shoes of William Hardwicke, clerk to Mr. Welles, and he missed one such pair from the stables - he suspected John Teague as he had been in the stable to get some oats - yesterday he accused Teague of taking the shoes which he had on his feet - Teague denied they had been stolen but that they had been made for him by Parsons of Upton on Severn - he took the shoes from Teague's feet and they were identified as his own by Hardwicke.
